Weekend Box Office: 'Man Of Steel' Soars To $125 Million Debut
Man Of Steel debuted this weekend for a 3.25 day total of $125 million. If you count that whole figure as its opening weekend, then it bests the $116 million debut of Alice In Wonderland for the second-best opening weekend for a non-sequel behind The Hunger Games‘s $152 million. It’s also, inflation and 3D bumps aside, that much closer to the $128 million debut of Iron Man 2 and becomes the 13th biggest debut ahead of the $125.1 million debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part I. But if you count just the $113.1 million Fri-Sun total as its opening weekend, which I generally do not, that puts Man Of Steel just barely above the $110 million debut of Toy Story 3 for the June weekend record.
Obviously credit goes to Warner Bros’ marketing department, which cut a series of emotionally potent trailers that actually hid most of the big action beats, even if they (grumble grumble) spoiled nearly every major emotional beat found in the film. Even the last minute action-filled teaser (titled ‘You are not alone’) and the Nokia trailer were cut so quickly as to merely suggest action rather than give away specific scenes (although I’m glad I waited until after I saw the film to watch that Nokia trailer). Warner Bros. also successfully kept expectations low, offering official predictions of a $75 million debut weekend while even rival studios dared only speculate as high as $100 million. As such, the $125 million figure is now seen as ‘over performing’ and will be reporting as opening well above expectations. So for the moment, Man Of Steel has reaffirmed DC Comics as a viable brand for big-scale tent poles just as Marvel did with Iron Man five years ago. So far, so good…
Hip Hop Sisters’ Among Four New Reality Shows at BET
BET is building up its unscripted pilots into development this year – including a reality show featuring MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama attempting to relauch their careers.
HIP HOP SISTERS is a docudrama following the relaunch of six female rappers’ careers. MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama join forces and declare themselves the Hip Hop Sisters. Their goal is to reclaim their titles as the Queens of Hip Hop — as they manage their drama-filled personal careers and lives and search for the next great female MC. MC Lyte joins Lemuel Plummer (Vindicated, The Sheards) as executive producer.
NFL superstar wide receiver Torrey Smith, who helped lead the Baltimore Ravens to victory at Superbowl 2013, is engaged to Chanel Williams. And earlier today, the happy couple released their engagement pics to The Baltimore Sun.
They posed for pics at the famed M&T Bank Stadium where Torrey's road to victory began.
Chanel also revealed that she'll officially become "Mrs. Smith" in exactly 30 days.

Torrey did a great job at picking out a ring. But, it's not the only big ass diamond in the family.
The Baltimore Ravens just received their Superbowl rings a few days ago. He tweeted, "Thought I gave @libraladii a nice ring until I saw this...."

Recently Shaunie O'neal, Evelyn Lozada and Tami Roman was talking about why Jennifer Williams and Royce Reed won't be returning to the newest season of Vh1's "Basketball Wives Miami".
In the "Upscale" magazine interview, Evelyn Lozada says that Royce is a non muthafuckin factor and stated that having Royce on the show no longer made sense. Well, Royce Reed must've heard about that interview because she has clapped back at Evelyn via her Twitter page.

FIRST LOOK: Mariah Carey As "Hattie Pearl" In "The Butler
Mariah Carey is among the A-listers who will be starring in Lee Daniels' upcoming film The Butler (August 16th). And now, we've got a sneak peek at her character. Mariah will be playing Hattie Pearl, and apparently, Hattie Pearl was a slave. AND she worked in the cotton fields.
We're sure many folks are going to having comments about Mariah and someone of her....aesthetic....playing a "field" slave....but this IS a Lee Daniels' film. It's supposed to make you question, wonder and debate. Not just say "Bish please."
In the film, Mariah will star alongside Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr, Lenny Kravitz, Robin Williams and Jane Fonda.
Meanwhile, Mariah, whose song "#Beautiful" featuring Miguel has put her back atop the music charts around the world, will release her 13th studio album on July 23.

Karrueche's Phone Gets Stolen!!!
According to Karrueche Tran's Twitter page, her phone was recently stolen. Not that phones being stolen aren't a big deal, but it's the fact that she didn't have a lock on her phone that's got her in an uproar! Want to know why? Because according to the word on the internet curb, Karrueche was busy twerking when her phone fell off her person. She didn't realize the phone was gone until she noticed the phone was no longer in her possession.
However, instead of thinking she lost the phone, Karrueche is adamant that a bitch stole her phone! Peep her tweet below:
